Cost Of Average Wedding Drops By A Massive 25%

There is no escaping the fact that weddings are big and expensive. However recent research shows that since 2008 the cost of a UK weddings has decreased by a massive 25% meaning the average wedding in 2011 now costs £15,500 including the honeymoon.

CompareWeddingInsurance.org.uk gathered data from over 2,000 wedding insurance policies which were purchased between 1st June 2010 and 31st May 2011 showing that the average cancellation cover provided by policies, excluding the honeymoon was £12,541, with an additional £3,000 added on to cover the honeymoon.

Broken down into regions the figures show that:

South East are 4% above the national average with the average wedding in this region costing £13,013 or £16,013 including honeymoon

East Midlands are 8% below the national average with the average wedding in this region costing £11,492 or £14,492 including the honeymoon.

London are 23% above the national average with the average wedding in this region costing £15,421 or £18,421 including honeymoon

East are 2% above the national average with the average wedding in this region costing £12,823 or £15,823 including the honeymoon.

North East are 4% below the national average with the average wedding in this region costing £12,074 or £15,074 including the honeymoon.

North West are 8% below the national average with the average wedding in this region costing £11,510 or £14,510 including the honeymoon.

Northern Ireland are 12% below the national average with the average wedding in this region costing £11,026 or £14.026 including the honeymoon.

Scotland are 8% below the national average with the average wedding in this region costing £11,507 or £14,507 including the honeymoon.

South West are 6% below the national average with the average wedding in this region costing £11,752 or £14,752 including the honeymoon.

Wales are 6% below the national average with the average wedding in this region costing £11,815 or £14,815 including the honeymoon.

West Midlands are 6% below the national average with the average wedding in this region costing £11,809 or £14,809 including the honeymoon.

Yorkshire and the Humber are 10% below the national average with the average wedding in this region costing £11,239 or £14,239 including the honeymoon.

Research also shows that the average age of a policyholder is 31.5 years old and an interesting fact is that 55% of policyholders are male, moving away from the traditional thinking that females make many of the purchasing decisions when it comes to weddings.
