Will Your Tiara Suit You?

Choosing a tiara has many considerations

• Will it complement the dress?
• Will it suit the style you planned for your hair?
• Should you have a tiara, alice band, comb or pins?

But one vital consideration, which is perhaps overlooked and the most important, is will it suit your face shape?

What is the shape of your face?
In order to determine the shape of your face, you will need to measure it. Measure your face from top to bottom and from side to side. If your face is oval shaped, then the length will be equal to one and a half times the width. When the length of your face equals the width, then you have a round face. Heart shaped faces have narrow chins and wide foreheads. Lastly, square shaped faces have a jawline, cheekbone and forehead almost equal in width.

So, once you have established your face shape you need to decide which hair accessories will suit you best. You have choices of front and side facing tiaras, tiara combs and hair pins which can be simple or complex in structure.

Oval

CrystabelleIf you find that you have an oval face shape, then you’re in luck! Having an oval face shape means that you can wear your hair in almost any style. Any shape and style can be worn, whether it’s short, long, layered or bobbed. The only thing to consider with an oval face shape is what part of your face you want to accentuate.
Lucky you! The world’s your oyster - accessories are only dependent on your hair style and hair type and obviously that it complements the materials and colour of your dress. If you choose a front facing tiara make sure the height is kept in proportion to you and doesn’t tower above your groom!

If you were born with an oblong or oval-shaped face, you share your facial structure with Sarah Jessica Parker and Jessica Alba.

Round

If you have a full, round face, you share your facial structure with Gwyneth Paltrow, Cameron Diaz and Catherine Zeta-Jones.
The shape is characterized by a round chin and lack of sharp angles. Round faces tend to be wider at the cheeks, with softer shaping along the jawline and forehead. Round faces need balance, which can be achieved with hairstyles that make the face appear longer.
The object is to add length and avoid width.
Hairstyles with height and fullness at the crown will give the illusion of a narrower face shape. If your hairstyle has height you don’t want to add anymore with an accessory so a simple tiara or comb could be worn but make sure it isn’t too wide. Avoid side accessories as you don’t want to add any more width!

CrystabelleSquare

With a square face shape, most people liketo soften their strong jawline.
Hairstyles with wispy pieces forward falling hair onto your face will soften your jaw line, while wearing a fringe swept over to one side will create diagonal movement to minimize square shapes. A side accessory would be perfect and this can be achieved in the form of a comb, tiara or pins. Almost any length is flattering which means that you have lots of flexibility in the choosing which length you want to wear your hair. As long as you soften your hairline with some of your hair, a hair accessory can be worn at the front, in front of a veil perhaps, as long as it isn’t too wide.

Heart

If you were lucky enough to be born with a heart-shaped face, then you've got it pretty easy as it’s the most versatile, so most hairstyles are guaranteed to look great on you. However, in order to express your features, you might like to try to diminish the width of your forehead and make your jaw wider. Use a side-swept or longer fringe to draw attention to your eyes and fantastic cheekbones. What you don’t want is an accessory to add any more width so keep it simple at the front. A fabulous idea would be to add detail into the back of your hair with a scattering of pins or more of a feature piece on a comb. You share your facial structure with Jennifer Love Hewitt, Naomi Campbell and Reese Witherspoon.
